Executive Director Monica Chen and New Roots Institute Are Recognized in Vox’s Future Perfect 50 List

November 22, 2024

The list features thinkers, activists, and academics who are “doing good better."

This week, Executive Director Monica Chen and New Roots Institute were featured in Vox’s Future Perfect 50, a list of changemakers who are committed to advancing solutions to critical, but often-overlooked problems.

Factory farming is an area of focus in the project, which Vox identifies as “one of the most underrated issues of our time." New Roots Institute was selected in the “Protecting Animal Rights” category for our efforts to raise awareness about the challenges within our food system and to cultivate advocates within the movement.

The list features thinkers, activists, and academics who are “doing good better,” tackling the world’s most pressing challenges through a range of strategies—from shaping policy to building community. We’re honored that our work to empower the next generation with knowledge and training to end factory farming is included in this series.

Vox highlights our educational approach in classrooms, writing: “If we can be more honest with children about factory farming, long before their values have ossified into an adult’s status quo bias, they might imagine different ways of organizing the world. And we might also, perhaps, learn to be more honest with ourselves.”

Chen expressed gratitude for our inclusion in this list. She shared, “I’m grateful that New Roots Institutes’s work to empower the next generation with knowledge and training to end factory farming is recognized. I'm motivated by the young advocates we work with everyday in our educational outreach and leadership development programs who are driving change in their communities. Cheers to the team, our 500+ fellows, and the other folks on the list who have helped make our collective work possible!”
